The Plain Language Big Book has been written to present the original ideas and same spiritual message of the Big Book, Alcoholics Anonymous in simpler language. The Plain Language Big Book covers the core content of what is the “abridged version” (the edition without personal stories) of the original Big Book. This book is General Service Conference-approved literature.

The Northampton Recovery Center is glad to announce that The Nurturing Fathers Program will be offering another 13 week course at our Center, 25 Armory St. Northampton. This program is to help support Father’s give guidance, love, and support to their children to enhance their development and growth. This program is a strength-based parenting group that helps fathers build and strengthen positive parenting attitudes and behaviors. The program has a structured curriculum intended to help them build parenting skills and strengthen their bonds with their children. There is no cost or fee to participate in the Nurturing Father’s Program, however you must do an intake prior to arrival. Please contact Demetra Balis at 413-582-7799 for the intake. There will be a free meal before each meeting and childcare is provided is needed.

Our Creative Writing Group is for everyone interested in exploring expression through writing, everyone is a writer! Join us in a supportive, judgement free space where we gather together to express ourselves by putting pen to paper. We will write to a prompt for 15-20 minutes, followed by an opportunity to share writings with the group if interested. Another 15-20 minute writing session & sharing to follow the first round if time allows. We look forward to seeing you there! We believe everyone is writer!

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also can promotes healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Master Practitioner Susan holds 3 one-on-one 20 minute sessions on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th Mondays of each month. This offering is open to the community free of charge.

September is National Recovery Month, help us reduce stigma around recovery and raise awareness by gathering together in community, connecting, and having some fun! This Tuesday, September 9th we at the NRC host our Annual Ice Cream Social with delicious, local ice cream from Herrell’s as well as fun activities and music. There will be sidewalk chalk art stations, face painting & temporary tattoo art, and more! Our community partners Tapestry Health & SADOD (Support After a Death by Overdose) will also be tabling at our event. All are welcome, we look forward to seeing you here!

In honor of Overdose Awareness Day Northampton’s Annual Overdose Awareness vigil will be held on Thursday, August 28th 6pm-8pm. We at the NRC will be attending to honor & remember those we have lost and to table with information about our Center and other resources. The NRC will be closed this Thursday in honor of Juneteenth, a now federal holiday. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived and announced the end of slavery, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
With our closing for the day there also will not be an evening Game Night or Community Resource Assitance.
